Google analytics is the best of the free analytics packages that are provided by an external company. Piwiki is a little better, but you have to run an installation of it yourself. If you really want to ensure you get the most from your traffic you need a company like Omniture to track your traffic and test various small changes to your site. Check out "Site Catalyst" and "Test and Target", but they are going to cost you money.
